Left You Hangin'!

In case you were worried, we did NOT die before we made it to Arizona! I realize I kind of didn't finish sharing the rest of our trip... oops! Moving is stressful, and busy, and it only makes it worse if you're moving from Alaska to Arizona and decide to drive it. Whyyy?
I did take some footage of our road trip though! Take a gander if you're interested :)

Almost Halfway There!

We made it to Fort Nelson this evening! We had a crazy day yesterday on our nearly 14 hour drive and started feeling like we would be driving forever, seriously the trip from Tok to Watson Lake was hell, but we did it! So to give us a little break we only did a 7 hour drive today to Fort Nelson and are now relaxing in our Super 8 motel room, which is a huge upgrade from our motel last night that smelled so old and kind of like cat litter. However, that makes us about halfway to Seattle (!!), which is where we're stopping for a few days to spend Thanksgiving with family before heading down to Arizona. So now we must shower and rest up for a nearly 10 hour drive tomorrow but I leave you with this short video of very exciting buffalo!

We're in Tok!

After about a 6.5 hour drive we made in to Tok, Alaska where you can find a charming diner and motel to stay at. We ate at Fast Eddy's and stayed the night at Young's Motel, if you ever make it to Tok, Fast Eddy's is a lot nicer than you would expect and they make a pretty decent burger too! I'm writing this quickly while Walter and Michael wait in the car so we can set off to Watson Lake today, we have a 12 hour drive ahead of us! Hoping Walter will behave today as he did yesterday, he was an angel in the car on the way here, fingers crossed! Until next time, friends!

Goodbye Alaska!

Long time no speak, friends! I don't know what's been happening since May but apparently I haven't had anything very interesting to blog about since then.
I started this blog to talk about mine and Michael's experience in Alaska and I thought it was fitting to share with you all that we are now leaving it. Since I moved up here I could not wait to leave to be honest. It wasn't that Alaska is the worst place in the world but I just felt so far away from our families and friends and everything we know plus I do not like snow. Soo that was definitely a problem. However, now that we're leaving this place we've called home for years, we like to say we have "graduation goggles".. we couldn't wait to leave and now we feel like we'll miss it a little. I at least wish we could stay until after the holidays because the only time I don't mind the snow is when it's Christmas time. But no, we must be on our way to spend Christmas at our new base in Arizona... I know, totally a 180 from where we are now. Poor Walter will be so sad to not see snow for a very long time. Oh and did I mention we're DRIVING there? Yes, we are crazy people but the trip comes highly recommended by everyone who has driven it. We hope to see lots of animals and pretty sights and desperately hope that Walter will not drive us crazy in the backseat. In case you still can't picture this, it will be Michael, Walter and I and lots of suitcases in my little Kia Forte driving down the snowy Alcan Highway. Your prayers are much appreciated!
Join us in our journey! I will be updating you on here during our road trip with info about the drive, in case any of you are crazies like us and want to give it a go one day, photos of interesting things and perhaps a video every now and then, given I have service to do so... we will be in the middle of nowhere after all.
If you want to see what we've been up to since May then take a glance at my instagram if you don't follow me already! I update that much more regularly.
Talk to you soon!

Us Lately

Lately all Michael and I do is work. He is still on his 24 on, 24 off schedule while I work over 40 hours a week on random days. So it's really nice when we get a day off together every now and then. Those days usually consist of walking Walter, getting lunch at one of our favorite places in town, running errands and just relaxing at home.

I am LOVING the weather we've been having lately. I think it got as hot as 80 degrees the other day ... and if you've ever lived in Alaska, anything over 55 is shorts weather!

The off leash dog park where we take Walter is so pretty, I love going there because Walter is pretty much obsessed with it but also because it is such a pretty place. Especially on days where there's not a cloud in the sky and the trees start turning green again.

This last time at the dog park, Walter felt it necessary to lay down in the mud. He kept walking through it while drinking water and we were kind of like "ahhh Walter...c'mon man" then he just plops down. I died of laughter and had to take a picture right away however I don't think Michael was as enthused as I was... he just looks so happy layin' there in the mud.

In other news, I finally bought my Marc by Marc Jacobs bag! I've been in love with this bag for three years but always felt it was too expensive and that I didn't really need it but after loving it for this long and visiting it at work all the time, I decided to just do it. And I'm so happy I did! We're best friends.

Do you ever find yourself doing something, or in this case, eating something and realize... holy poop, I'm turning into my mother. Well that happened the other night. Something my mom did was have candy stashed (usually in the china cabinet in the dining room) and most of the time it was Hot Tamales. She would bust those things out if she were going to watch a movie or a tv show. When Michael and I were finally watching How I Met Your Mother season 8 we bought some candy (huge candy lovers) and for some reason I thought "yeah... hot tamales sound good" and when does that ever happen? Do any of you ever buy Hot Tamales? Does anybody who doesn't go by the name of Bess still buy these, along with Necco's, Bottlecaps and Big Hunk? I don't think so. But I did.

I love summers in Alaska, It really makes up for the horrible winters we have. I'm convinced the summer is the reason why people stay here because its so pretty and there are a ton of outdoorsy things to do... if you're into that sort of thing. One of my favorite things about the summer is how light it is all the time. I love how bright the house is during the day (and at night too which is almost inconvenient when you want to sleep). You might be wondering why we don't have curtains in our room and I don't have a very good reason other than the fact that we just put it off all summer last year then when winter came curtains weren't necessary so we kept putting it off and now this is our last summer here so we might just never do it.

My boys, I love them.

Have a fun weekend!
